Updates on my Dell Inspiron 1520 w/Vista...

Resolutions for previously found problems -
  • The wireless patch seemed to have worked. I'm on day three after installing the patch. So far so good. Haven't run the speed test though to see if the patch/wireless card has any impact on my speed. I should also mention that my wireless card is not default one that came with the Dell Inspiron 1520; it's an upgraded card. Before installing the patch, be sure to check to make sure that you have the same wireless card.
  • I finally figured out how to "find" Google Desktop on my desktop. Since it's still considered an app, even though Google Desktop doesn't show up on the task bar, clicking on "Show desktop" causes it to also to be "minimized". The way to get to it: 1) click on "Show desktop", 2) Click on one of the other minimized apps to maximize/switch to it (e.g. IE), 3) Minimize that app, and voila! your Google Desktop always show without fail.
  • My theory with the blinking cursor is that it happens when I boot the laptop with my iPod connected. My husbands jokes that it's an Apple hidden program sabotaging Windows.
New observation -
  • If I'm too impatient during Windows start up and start initiating programs, looking for files, something will go wrong. For example, I sometimes get an error message regarding "Start advanced FX video application" having problems if I start initiating programs (such as the browser) before Windows is completed with start up. Under a similar situation, Windows have problems locating a file that I ask it to find during start up. I guess I just have to be more patient; the same file is found if I wait until start up is completed. There's a Chinese saying, the more you wish to hurry, the more likely you won't get there. i.e. Be patient!
