Day 8
On Day #8, I received my new laptop! It only took a week from order to delivery. A spring green Dell Inspiron 1520, dual core Intel Centrino 2 GHz, 160 GB 5400 rpm hard drive, 2 GB RAM, High Res 15.4" screen, with web cam and blue tooth. It's going to be a nice and powerful working machine! I spent almost all day today setting it up, installing the different software I need, exploring Vista and MS 2007.
So far, Vista is playing nicely as far as I can tell. The Google Desktop search box widget is a little buggy on Vista though. The logo and the box can't stay together. ;) I've got the Google logo on the lower left of the screen, and the search box, now in the shape of a black shaded box (with no where to type) on the lower right. Since I got the Vista Home Basic version, it doesn't have the fancy bells & whistles of the "glass" borders and thumbnail toggles between apps; it's all cosmetics anyways, so I don't really care. It seems like MS is really trying to go after the small business market - with MS Live, free domain/hosting giveaway, and MS Accounting. It's going to be tough for them to try to get into the Quickbooks space though. Seems every accountant is on Quickbooks.
Tomorrow is going to be a busy day!
