Disasters...

It was around 10:30 p.m. I've been working all day at my workstation (minus the little time I took to cook & eat lunch/dinner). Half an hour ago, on our nightly walk w/our dog, my husband told me about the 7.9 earthquake at ChengDu, China; he said 10,000 were estimated to have died from the earthquake.

10,000 dead, and amongst them, students, 8th/9th-graders. See the report from CNN for more info. As this just happened less than 24 hours ago, there isn't a lot of information yet about how one can help. So far, Mercy Corps issued a press release about deploying staff to the area to help with relief efforts. No news has been posted on World Vision or Red Cross yet. China Red Cross website is not accessible at the moment.

As I read about this, I found out about another recent disaster at Myanmar, Burma. It is estimated that 60,000 to 102,000 died from the cyclone there. What's happening to this world??? See CNN's Impact Your World page for organizations to contact if you're interested in helping.

In light of these disasters, my little startup and the tasks at hand like finding a server don't seem all that important...
