The Missing Piece & The Missing Piece Meets the Big O

Do you ever get the feeling that the reason why you had discovered/learned about something in the past was for the exact moment that you are in now? That "this is why I learned about that!" moment. I had one such moment this weekend.

A family friend is getting married later in the year. While a traditional marriage book may be helpful for a young couple, it sure is difficult to read for those of us who aren't avid readers. When I walked into Borders, it dawned on me that the reason I read The Missing Piece & The Missing Piece Meets the Big O is for this young couple.

The Missing Piece is about that conquest of finding the other half, but warns that love oblivious to all your surroundings/friends/family isn't all that healthy. The Missing Piece Meets the Big O starts with funny illustrations about the wait for the other half, and the Missing Piece coming to the realization that s/he must be an independent, complete "piece" first before s/he is able to "roll" with the Big O.

I love the simplicity of Shel Silverstein's work; these two kids books take just a few minutes to read. Yet, the underlying wisdom is phenominal. They make wonderful reads for little kids and adults alike.
