DC Museums

Finally, a day that we got to sleep in. We slept till about 10 am and headed towards the Smithsonian. We first stopped by the Smithsonian Castle, visited the crypt, then headed straight for the Natural History Museum.

It's been many years since I last visited this museum. Expecting to see some old exhibits, I was pleasantly surprised. There's a new Ocean Zone with history on wales and various sea animals. The whale used to have four legs and traveled between land and sea. As it evolves with the abundance of food in the ocean, its hind legs disappeared, and the front legs turned into fins. Like the horse, it also used to be smaller. Horses used to be the size of a big dog. Over time, it got bigger and became spotless. The dinosaur exhibit is always fun. The mammel area had been remodeled and looks much nicer now.

It seems we were always rushing while we were in DC. After the Natural History Museum, we hurried over to the International Spy Museum for our 3:05 pm appointment. We had tickets to the 3:05 Operation Spy experience, where we joined a group of people to spy on a foreign electricity minister. We operated hidden cameras, calibrated equipment to listen in on a phone conversation, dodged guards along a hallway to the Minister's apartment, cracked the safe, and rid on an escape van to a safehouse, where we interrogated a fellow spy. From there, we were helicopter-ed off to a safe place for de-briefing. After the experience, we walked around the museum where we saw some gadgets and a lot of spy history. Having had really high expectations of the experience and museum, I'd have to say I was a little disappointed. This probably would be more fun for high school students or history buffs, to understand what happens behind the scenes in the spy world.

After the museum closed at 6:00 pm, we were dead tired and decided to head towards Zaytinya to see if they could take us early. At this point, we only had breakfast and shared a protein bar betwen us. We were starved. Zaytinya is situated in downtwon, a couple blocks from Chinatown. We love sour food and Zaytinya did not disappoint. We especially loved the shrimpg dish with a lemon/yogurt sauce. The apricot yogurt dessert was also delicious!

We decided to stroll around Chinatown after dinner and found not many Chinese people there. It's mostly African Americans. But, there was a Legal Seafood there... lobster, yumm... We had to leave DC the next day, and decided to turn in early to pack for our departure.
